Nursing 101 Update
There really is no need for an update, I just want to try my hand at blogging. Up to this point Lynn has been writting everything. Here is your update anyway. So I went to the Dr. today, waste of time, but fun none-the-less. She basically told me the same thing the ER physician siad, most likely a combination of dehydration, alcohol consumption, and too much nicotine. But let the record stand, neither doctor told me to quit smoking the cigars completely, they simply suggested moderation. That's it!

Nursing 101
We had a minor scare last night with Jesse. We were over at our neighbor's apartment (Ryan) to try some pickled crayfish that he had. The guys were drinking Long Island Ice Tea, eating crayfish and smoking cigars.
Jesse was smoking his cigar and he just wasn't feeling good so he crouched down and we helped him to the lawn chair. He said was feeling light headed. We asked him if he wanted to go lay down on the couch and he wasn't answering us. I was trying to get him to put his feet up on the other chair and the next thing I know his head fell forward and he wasn't responding. And he was sweating really bad.
His eyes were 1/2 open and I could see that his eyes were rolled back. And I tipped his head back and started calling his name and hitting (gently) his face. When I tipped his head back he snored a little bit. The snore was almost as if he was starting to choke on his tongue a little bit. He just wasn't responding and Ryan and I are calling his name and still trying to get him to wake up.
Finally I grabbed the phone and called 911. By the time I had given them our address he woke up and asked "Where did I go?" He just wasn't himself and was very white!! They sent a fire truck and ambulance. Before the fire truck got there he had thrown-up a couple times. He still wasn't talking very much and when he did talk he had a very thick tongue and was still not okay in my eyes. And, they strongly suggested that he went in to get checked out.
The ambulance took him to the Newberg hospital and Ryan and I followed him there. At first we took Ryan's truck and half way out of the apartment complex we notice that his head lights are not working. We have fog lights and brights but no head lights. So we had to go back and take our truck.
We when we finally got to the hospital they took some information from me. I had grabbed Jesse's wallet thinking that he might have his insurance card in there. This guy has everything in his wallet except his social security card and insurance card. He has a snowmobile and ATV licenses that he needed when he was 14!!! Silly guy!!
When we were finally able to go back and see him he looked so much better!! I was so relieved and that was when a few tears started!! I was so good - no tears until I knew he was okay and all the bad stuff was over.
They gave him two IV bags. After the first one he still was feeling dizzy and had a headache so they gave him another one and he was ready to run a marathon. They took a bunch of tests - blood work, ekgs, x-rays... and everything came back normal. Except - he has really long lungs!! They had a hard time fitting his lungs on the screen to take the x-ray. His lungs are so long because he is so tall.
All this happened around 8:30p and we were finally dismissed from the hospital at 11:45p. When the nurse came in to take his IV out he asked her if he could do it. I was like NO WAY!! But, she let him!! Now Jesse is going to go to school to become a Medical Doctor!!!!!! Just kidding!!
We have a strong feeling that the cigar was the cause of him passing out. Too much nicotine. While we were sitting in the hospital waiting for all his test to come back he was telling us what he remembered. He said that when he passed out he was dreaming, but can't remember what the dream was about. He also said that he could hear Ryan talking to him but he couldn't respond back to him. He also heard me on the phone talking to the 911 dispatcher and was thinking why did they call for an ambulance. Thinking back now we should have just drove him to the hospital ourselves instead of having him go in the ambulance. They didn't really give us the option, nor did I think of it until it was all over.
Jesse is feeling great today and everything is back to normal. The Dr. told him that he should make sure that he stays hydrated and he should send the rest of his cigars to him.

The beginning of our internship process.
Jesse will be starting his final "school" year of graduate school in a few weeks! This poor guy has been in school since he was 5!!! He just turned 26... that is 21 years of school!! Can you imagine?!?
Right now we are in the process of finding an internship site that he will work at next year (August/September). He will get paid at this internship site!!! This is how finding an internship site works. You pick 15 sites to apply to. Yup, that is correct, 15 essays! What are the chances that each application is going to want the same essay topic!!
They call you if they are interest and you set up an interview. After the interview you rate that site on how well you liked it and the site rates you!! After everyone (in the U.S.) has complete this part. A computer, that I believe is located in Canada, matches everyone according to how you rated the site and how the site rated you. (If both are rated the same there is a good chance you will get it.)
Sometime in February (I don't know the exact day, but Jesse does) we will get an e-mail that says you have been placed at a site. There is a slight chance that you didn't match with any of your sites! If that happens then you get what ever is left over. You don't get to pick at this point - you get what is handed to you.
After you get the e-mail that tells you if you have been placed another e-mail will follow (I can't remember how long afterwards) that tells you where you are going!!
They don't know it yet, but I will be incharge of the computer in Canada this year!!! And everyone in our PsyD program is going to their 1st pick!! You're all welcome!!
We really want to get back to the mid-west to be closer to our families. So, we have only been looking at sites in that area. Our ideal plan is for Jesse to get placed at the prison system in Minnesota. After that, then he would work at the Stanley Prison and they will pay back some of your student loans!! And, you have great benefits. And, we are very close to family!! He would have to sign on to work there for a few years (maybe 4) but those 4 years would be worth it for them to pay back loans! Remember this is just our dream.
Here are the 15 cities that we are applying to in order of our preference: Rochester, MN; Madison, WI; Appleton, WI; Racine,WI; Mason City, IA; Hibbing, MN; Duluth, MN; Weaton, IL; Wales, WI; Waterford, WI; Chicago, IL; Milwaukee, WI; St Paul, MN; Oakdale, MN; and Minneapolis, MN.

To my country fans!!!
I don't want to forget this experience so I thought I should put it in here! Last Tuesday (Aug 8th) I went to a Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert with my friend Natalie! We bought our tickets the very first hour they were available! Natalie left work to go home and buy us tickets... we wanted good seats! We waited patiently from February to August!!
The day of the concert finally came... we left work early because we wanted to get there as early as possible. We didn't know what we were going to do but we didn't want to miss a thing! A radio station we listen to out here (99.5 The Wolf) was going to be there and they were having a pre-party!! We got to the Rose Garden around 5... concert doesn't start until 7:30! We found The Wolf's pre-party and they were having a drawing for backstage passes!! We immediately signed up!!
They start drawing names for the passes and some people weren't even there and then some people just weren't getting excited... they just won backstage passes and no screams or Whoohoos!!!? Natalie and I are joking and saying if they draw our name we will be screaming! All of a sudden we hear NATALIE ROBBINS!! I screamed, jumped, threw my hands in the air all before Natalie even realized they just called her name!! We were so excited and so shocked!! We couldn't believe what just happened to us!!

We take off running... we don't know where the box office is so we are practically running in circles and I am so giddy right about now that I am still giving out little screams here and there!! Once we get to the box office we try to take pictures of our passes but we are shaking so bad that the picture comes out blurry. A lady seen us struggling so she took our picture for us with our tickets!! We are seriously the only ones way too excited about this!! We are still shaking and still can't believe we just won backstage passes!!!!
We are finally taken to the "backstage" area, which is a room that has a bar, a few tall round tables with black table clothes with buckets that have ice and bottled water in them, and a small stage with microphones and chairs on it! Natalie and I belly up to the stage as close as we can! (30-40 people were backstage with us.) They kept us waiting for a what seemed like forever! Our excitement level is almost maxed out!!
A couple of the band members and back-up singers come out. They introduce themselves and sing a few songs. (Drum Roll Please.......) Then, Tim McGraw comes out! Everyone starts screaming! I look over to the other side of the stage and Faith Hill came with him but I didn't even notice!! (We were closer to Tim's [I am now on a first name basis] side of the stage.)
Tim sings a song (which we can't remember what it was.) and then we were able to ask a few questions... While the questions we were being asked we busy trying to get a picture of us with Tim in the background!!
We even had good seats for the concert! The concert was super great!! They are both great singers and performers!! We had kind of a fuddy-duddy section where everyone wanted to sit but not Natalie and I, we stood for most of it and danced along! We wanted to go up on stage and dance with Faith so bad!! She was so cute and looked like she was having so much fun!!
After the concert we were still giddy and we weren't sure if we were going to be able to sleep! We both woke up still full of energy that we had to e-mail each other to see if the other was still as excited as we were last night!! It was so much!!
(And for the non-city folk out there... it took us a little over an hour to get home from the concert and we only had to go 13 miles!!!!)

From the Beginning
On August 9, 2003 Jesse and I got married in Medford Wisconsin! We had a beautiful August day. This was a very happy time but also a very sad time for us! The next day we would be leaving on our honeymoon and then from there we would be moving to Oregon for 4 years!! Neither of us have been to Oregon and we weren't sure what to expect... all we knew was we had to go! We had lots of faith that God would take care of us, provide and keep us safe. We (or should I say... mostly me) cried lots of tears as family and friends slowly left that night.
We went on a 1 week honeymoon to Mississippi!! Jesse has a lot of family that lives in Mississippi and the last time he saw them he was a teenager. While we were there we took a few days to drive down to Pensacola Florida!! We splurged and got a hotel on the beach with an ocean view!! This was the first time I seen the ocean and was so excited because we were moving to Oregon when we got back!! We were only going to be a few hours from the ocean!! This is going to be great!!
We got back to Wisconsin and slowly packed our things knowing that there were going to be tough times ahead of us as we had to say goodbye to our family!! Both our Parents (and Adam) were going to drive out to Oregon with us! A little caravan...Frey's, Jesse & I, and bringing up the tail end... Johnny 55!!! (He did a great job of keeping up - we had him doing 100mph!!! That is a world record for him - we even got a picture to prove it!!) We had walkie-talkies and we told stories as we drove over the mountains.
I suppose I should tell you why we are moving. Jesse has picked George Fox University to get his doctors in psychology.
Three days later we arrived at our apartment that we had only seen pictures of on the internet!! We opened the door to our new apartment and I could not believe how small it was!! I didn't think we were going to be able to get all our stuff in it!! It was TINY!! But, we managed and were thankful that we just signed a 6 month lease!!
Jesse's brother, Jerry and his girlfriend, Steph, drove a few days before us because Steph has a sister that lives out here in Eugene. They came back and spent the first night with us in our apartment! Jerry ordered us pizza from Papa Johns and to this day when we call for pizza we have to tell them that we are Jerry Frey. They have our address and phone number matched with Jerry!!
Dave, Mary, Jerry and Steph were going to drive down to California and see to the Redwoods while My parent, Adam, Jesse and I went to see that Ocean!! Dad and Adam had never seen the ocean!!! It was hot here so we dressed in our tanktops, shorts and flip-flops because we are going to the BEACH!!
We went to Lincoln City. We arrive and it is kind of hazy out and VERY cold!! Mom and I shivered the whole time!! We took our shoes off and walked in the sand to the water... oh this water is not like the water in Florida!!!!! FREEZING COLD!! We stuck our feet in and immediately took them out and ran!! It was so cold that if you kept them in there for too long you got the feeling of an ice cream headache in your feet!! We walked around and explored for a little bit then hoped back in the truck to head for warmth!!
On our way back to Tigard Mom had spotted a sign that said something about a waterfall! We talked Dad into taking us to it! We drove and we drove and we drove and we drove. Up and up and up and up. On some very narrow roads with some very steep ledges!! And, we swear that we didn't see a car the whole way... except a log truck that was coming down! Jesse kept saying that there has to be something amazing at the end. We finally find the parking lot and now there is a hike to the waterfall. We hike through the woods and over a suspension bridge (this is the scariest bridge ever!!) and there was an amazing waterfall... Drift Creek Falls!!
A couple days later it was time for the Hemmers to leave. We knew it was coming and it still brings tears to my eyes just thinking about that day! I don't really remember the actual goodbyes... I am sure there were lots of tears. After they left Jesse and I laid on the couch and tried to watch TV or take a nap trying to keep us looking ahead.
A few days later Jesse's parents left and we went through all the same emotions again!!
Looking back now (we have been here 3 years) I can't imagine how our parents felt!! I was only 20!!! Jesse was 23!! We were both fresh out of college and newly married!! Neither one of us had a job!!! Every once in awhile Jesse and I will think back to those days and all we can say is it was God-thing!! We honestly didn't know what else we were suppose to do... this was it! And, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!! It has made us both stronger individually and as a couple!!
Now, Jesse is going to be starting his 4th year!!! Time went SO fast! We are looking at internships and starting the moving process all over again!! I am working as an office manager for a small manufacturing company! Life is good! We put all our faith and trust in God and he provided!!
