Family Day–Thanksgiving Style

November 26th!  I haven’t touched my camera for 26 days!!  Halloween was the last day that I took a picture. 

Amazing how throwing school (only 2 days a week) can create such a different routine.  Plus with all the other activities – Awanas & Ballet.  And then my own activities.  The days, nights and weeks just get away from me.  Before I know it 26 days have gone by and I haven’t documented a single thing!

Today was the first family day at school.  Jesse and I both went.  They started out singing songs for us.  The cutest silliest songs!

Then they had to come get their parents (or grandparents) and teach us a song and dance moves.  The Turkey Dance (Chicken Dance).  Itsy Bitsy Spider.  Head Shoulder Knees & Toes.  Going on a Bear Hunt.  They definitely got their wiggles out with all these songs!  Max refused to do them.  Plus one of us had to hold him.

After all that singing and dancing we found tables and had to read one Turkey book and then do a project… potato turkeys!

Mallory’s teacher said Max could make one too.  Mallory’s teachers get a kick out of Max.  He comes with every day to drop her off and her pick her up.  He is usually running full-blown down the hallways and right to where Mallory’s backpack goes and is waiting for us to catch up.  One of Mallory’s teacher has her own Max (who is a pre-teen) so she eats up our little Max.

Halloween Day

One more Halloween post and then we can move on to other topics.

Halloween night the kids got back into their costumes.

Grandma Mary thought it would be super fun to hand out candy.  And after we told her how many kids we typically get – it was even more exciting for her.

My one neighbor counts the kids.  I don’t know how he does it – but he knows.  So towards the end of the night I yelled over to him “How many kids?”  He yelled back “212!”  I’m not lying either!  Our street gets hit the hardest!

Since Mary was there to hand out candy for us – we took the kids out.  Mallory really want to give it a try.  Max just wanted to run and follow.

This was the first house.  Mally knew what to do but Max didn’t.  He would just drop his bag at the door and let them open it and put the candy in.

Neighbor Bonnie (below) had special candy for the kids.  When the kids came to the door she was so excited and said “oh wait – I have better candy for you guys.”  She is just too sweet to us!

We took them to a few more houses and we walked up to another street to go to our friends and they were dressed up in scary costumes sitting in their garage with a disco light going.  It was pretty neat… however the kids froze and wouldn’t go up the driveway.  After we told Mallory who it was she went up there but Max had to be carried. 

Then he was done.

He had to be carried all the way back home and if we stopped at another house he would say “is there a super scary monster at this house?”  Once he seen the person he would go to the door. 

Then we came home and Mary & I handed out the rest of the candy and the kids went in the house and ate candy with Jesse. 

Parade Time

Every year there is a Halloween Parade.  Every year it is freezing!  Every year we leave early because our children are on the verge of ice cubes!  Every year we leave saying we are not doing this again next year!  Well it never happens!

This year I emailed my Mom and sister and said… Did we swear off the parade?  Are we really not going this year? 

I decided that nope.  I wasn’t going!  Not going to go!  Nope!  Done! 

Well a few days before the parade we got a call from Jesse’s Mom and she was so excited about the parade and bought all this stuff for the parade.

Before the parade we got ready at Jesse’s parents house.  Found out Grandpa Dave was going as a farmer too!

We got to the parade and saw this little man running around!  My cousin’s little guy and I just don’t see this family enough!  I miss them!

I may be biased… but my son Max makes one incredibly handsome farmer!!

Between Jesse and Grandpa Dave – Max will have a full fledge working crop farm by the time he is ten.  Jesse has been scoping out Combines and plots of crop land.  I’m not kidding.  The last few weeks have been Jesse telling me all about how much he can get a Combine for!  Um… not sure where he plans on storing his Combine – but if we thought our neighbors loved us… wait until we roll in with a Combine and plant that in the yard!! 

Grandpa Dave is already planning his second retirement of running a farm and Max comes and lives with him for the summer.  Grandpa Dave and I argue about this often.  I tell him there is no way Max will be gone for a summer.  He tells me I need to let go.  I tell him… I’m the momma!!  He tells me… he’ll be fine and it will be good for him!  And I could see him on the weekends.  Humphf.  Not sure I’m going to win that battle!  ; )

It was cold.  Not as cold as years past.  However Max refused to put his jacket on.  That is so not farmer like to wear a jacket!  So he hopped from arms to arms to be held and steal body heat.

This was a huge shocker!  Garrett was not Super Man… or Spider Man.  Can’t remember what super hero he is into!  It is a laughing joke because I have no clue who my Super Heros are!  Anyway Garrett came as a cheetah and shocked us all!

We ended up staying for the whole parade and enjoyed it very much!
