Emu & Time Outs

We are back from our trip and it has been kind of a busy week and next week is even busier with supper plans, Dr. appointments, and Mom’s groups… but I wanted to pop in real quick and share some funny stories.

This week I had to run downstairs and email Jesse while Mallory was eating her breakfast.  I told her I was going to email daddy and would be right back.  Like she really knows what emailing is… but whatever.  : )

So now every time I grab the computer or we go downstairs she says “Emu Datee”.

This morning I was looking out the dining room window and I see Mallory’s bucket and shovel in the snow.  Grrr.  Maggie is stealing Mallory’s toys again and chewing on them.  So I say something to the effect of Maggie was naughty and needs a time out.  I let Maggie in the house and I make her go right to her blanket… Mallory says “time out Maggie”.

I let Mally out of her high chair after breakfast and she runs right to Maggie and says “time out”.  I tell her that Maggie is all done with her time out – she can pet her.  (Maggie is not usually upstairs with us so when she is it is really exciting to Mally.)  Right now Mally is reading Maggie books and giggling because Maggie is licking her.  Then she runs off down the hall way and says “ni-night Maggie” and comes back and reads more books to Maggie.  A-dorable!  Even though I don’t like dogs.  : )

Just because a blog isn’t fun without pictures – here is a video I took yesterday of her.  She was so excited to watch Mickey Mouse after lunch that I thought I would try to catch her excitement – however she got shy about it.  Before the camera there were squeals and giggles and yelling about Mickey Mouse.  (She doesn’t get to watch it very often so it is really special when she does.)

My video was cut short because I ran out of memory space.  But we saw her friends – Kate, Luke & Lily at the library by surprise.  We didn’t know they were going to be there too.  She ran around and followed Kate (who is 6) and then her Lily (who is 1) shoved themselves into an empty book shelf and sat there.  Funny kids!

Happy Heart Day!

About a month ago I schedule this photo session with my Mom for February.  We decided to do Valentine’s pictures and I was going to make Valentine’s cards and send them out.  Well… the photos were taken!  However, I did not make the cards until Saturday night meaning they would be mailed out on Valentine’s.  People wouldn’t get them until after… so I decided to just post the card on the blog and call it good enough.

Pretend you are opening an envelope from us and you find this inside…

2011 Valentines

You can go here to see some of the other pictures that were taken that day.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We’re still here

Just wanted to let you know that we are all still here and well.  I just hit a rough patch of the winter blues or crazy pregnancy hormones and I haven’t taken pictures or had anything fun and exciting to blog about.

I’ve already hit my third trimester!  Going to the Dr. every two weeks that means.  Wild!  When they told me at my last appointment I was in my third trimester my mouth literally fell open.  Crazy, how I don’t keep track or know what week I am at with this pregnancy.  I just know my due date.  LOL.

I’ve got the bedding for little boy and a new bed (a toddler bed) for Mallory.  In March we will be doing a room makeover and possibly seeing if Mallory would like to switch to a big bed.  She isn’t trying to climb out… but when I am in there with her she will throw a leg over the rail and attempt to get out on her own.  So in a few more weeks she might be ready for the switch.

Mallory is talking more and more.  She is starting to try to put sentences together.  Well not really sentences, but multiple words.  The other day I was sitting in a chair and she wanted me to do something (I can’t remember what it was) and she pulled on my belt loop and said “get up momma”.  I laughed pretty hard!

Yesterday afternoon I took her to the library and while I went to put my shoes on I told her to go to tell Daddy we were going to the library.  She ran over to Jesse and said “yibrary.  momma.”

While at the library there was this little boy (I want to say like  kindergarten age) that was sitting at the table doing puzzles.  Mallory and I were looking at books and she spotted this little boy at the table and went right over there saying “hi.  hi.  hi.  hi.  hi.” and sat at the table across from him and did a puzzle.  I just let her be and didn’t follow her.  I could see her (and hear her – she isn’t aware that libraries are quiet) from where I was at.  I hear her say “dump out” and a big crash of puzzle pieces.  Then she keeps saying “hi.  hi.  hi.  hi.  hi.” to this little boy.  Now the thing with Mallory is she won’t stop until you acknowledge her.  She will repeat whatever it is until you say something in return.  I just chuckled to myself as she is sitting at this table with this very shy little boy saying hi to him and he just looks at her.  Finally after what felt like 5 minutes of her saying hi… he finally said hi and she stopped!  She did her puzzle and came back over by me.

This repeating until you acknowledge what she is saying can sometimes be trouble.  For instance at lunch time – Jesse comes home every day for lunch and usually Mallory is already in her high chair eating away.  But when Jesse walks in she wants to tell him everything she is eating.  He will be stumbling around the kitchen doing his thing and Mallory will be in her chair going “orange.  orange.  orange.” holding a piece of orange in her hand leaning forward in her hair chair looking at him waiting for him to respond.  It is to the point now where she will say “datee.  orange.” when he doesn’t respond to the first 30 “oranges” she will finally say his name.  That usually gets his attention.  Or after her saying 5 “oranges” I say… Jesse, she is eating oranges!  He will acknowledge and saying something to her and she smiles and eats her orange, and then she moves onto the next item on her plate… milk. milk. milk…

If you take her to public places she will also say “hi” to everyone she sees… even if they don’t see her.  We could be walking behind them and she will be in the cart going “hi. hi. hi. hi.”  However… if someone (a stranger) starts talking to her first… she won’t speak!  She gets shy and quiet.

I was in the checkout line at Shopko a few weeks back and I told Mallory we needed to go home and see Daddy.  So when we get up to the checkout guy and I’m swiping my card she is leaning over the cart looking at the checkout guy saying “bu-bye.  datee.”  The kid looks at her and then looks at me and all I could do was laugh.  She was telling him that she was going bu-bye to see her daddy… she didn’t think he was her daddy.  LOL!!!  This stage she is in cracks me up!!

One of my favorite sayings that she says is “help you”.  If she needs help with something she will say “help you” to ask for help.  Love it!  Most of the time she is trying to get a toy or puppy is stuck between the rails of her crib and she can’t get him out and she will come running saying “help you” or “puppy stuck”.

She also says “sank you” (thank you).  Most of the time she says it in the right context.  However, if she is asking for something I will ask her to say please.  To which she says “sank you” and I say no, say please.  sank you.  I ask one more time… say please.  sank you.  and then for good measure she follow up that sank you with a yelcome (welcome).  When I finally give her what she is asking for she will say “sank you.  yelcome.”  She might be overly polite.  ; )

One more funny thing she said…  She has started taking interest in shoes and trying to put on everyone’s shoes.  She usually attempts to put my shoes on and then says “bu-bye.  gochery store.  kish.”  She is going to the grocery store and she needs a kiss before she leaves.  : )  Last night her shoes were in the living room and she wanted them on – I put them on, without socks.  She leaves them on for a good 15 minutes and then wants them off.  So I take them off.  She runs and gets socks and comes back and wants her socks on, but she only brought me one sock.  I put the sock on and then she wants her shoe on again.  I let out a little huff of a breath and give her a look like… really?  And she says “Maggie hair”  Hahahahahahahaha!  Maggie has been shedding really really really bad lately and I am so totally disgusted by pet hair… and Mallory drags her blanket everywhere and I find Maggie hair on it and I must huff and say Maggie hair too much.  Because when I huffed at having to put her shoes back on (after just taking them off) she thought I was huffing about Maggie hair.

Other than that things have been the same old boring days, every day.  I’m very ready for spring this year and warm weather and being able to go outside again.

We are going on a little vacation/work trip next week.  I’m very excited!  I get to see and stay with some very good friends and Jesse will be working.  I just looked up their weather too and it should be in the 50s!!  Whoop whoop!  I might bring my shorts and tank tops and work on a tan while I am there!  ; )
